An extensive area of smoke covers the southeast area of the Amazon 14 September

The dense smoke, captured by satellite images, reaches several important Amazon Indian villages such as Kayapó, Badjonkore and Menkragnoti.

The smoke comes from hundreds of fires that have been plaguing the region for days, most of them caused by arsonists and other criminals who conspire to create open pastures for agricultural uses, squatters, and loggers clearing out vegetation.

The Amazon is at the height of the dry season and there is no forecast of rain to soften the current situation that reaches beyond the jungle and impacts the health of the Indians who inhabit the region.
