Number of the fires in Amazon Biome – September 2018 x September 2019

We are already in the second half of September and the fight against fires continues in the Amazon. There has been a concerted effort by government officials and public opinion to come together in the fight against fire. With this synergy has already been a positive balance can be determined at least in the first 17 days of September.

Rainfall has been irregular in the Amazon and has been concentrated in western and northern sectors of the region, where there are few records of fires. Even with these irregular rains there was a 28% reduction in the first 17 days of September this year over the same period last year. This is good news, but at the same time it warns us that the burning period is still far from over for it will extend until October.

The Brazilian federal and state governments must maintain vigilance and fire fighting as the dry and hot air mass that dominates the region is very strong with maximum temperatures exceeding 40C (104F) in important regions such as the Xingu indigenous reserve in the state of Mato Grosso. Weather conditions are still very favorable to new fires.
