WEC at CPAM 2024: Scientific Outreach Transforming Knowledge into Awareness

Between August 19 and 23, 2024, the city of São Paulo hosted important scientific discussions during the Conferência Pan-Americana de Meteorologia (CPAM 2024).

Junior researchers Kimberly Gabrielly Silva Teixeira and Karla Simão Dias brilliantly presented the methodology behind the creation of the “Newsletters on Weather Conditions in Brazil”, a project that combines science, communication, and environmental responsibility.

The presentation highlighted how the production of monthly climate bulletins goes far beyond simply sharing technical data. It is a structured process involving the collection, analysis, and interpretation of meteorological information, which is then translated into accessible language to raise awareness about climate change and its impacts in Brazil.

By sharing the methodology used in developing the newsletters, the researchers emphasized the importance of scientific communication as a strategic tool to bring society closer to climate discussions — especially in a context marked by the intensification of extreme events and changes in rainfall patterns.

WEC’s participation at CPAM 2024 reinforces the institution’s commitment to scientific production, environmental education, and the democratization of meteorological knowledge.
