Tropical Meteorology

The Tropical Meteorology Project aims to investigate the dominant weather and climate systems that influence the Amazon region, including the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and Sea Surface Temperature (SST) anomalies over the tropical Atlantic Ocean.

Through continuous monitoring of precipitation patterns, drought conditions, atmospheric circulation at both low and high levels, satellite imagery, NCEP reanalysis datasets, and numerical weather models, the project seeks to better understand the complex climatic dynamics affecting the Amazon Basin.

These analyses contribute to improving climate monitoring and forecasting capabilities, helping scientists evaluate the potential impacts of climate change on the Amazon rainforest and on the regions that depend directly and indirectly on its environmental balance. The project also aims to support scientific research and environmental awareness regarding the crucial role of the Amazon in maintaining global climate equilibrium.
