Cryosphere1: A Milestone for Brazilian Science in Antarctica

The World Environment Council (WEC) proudly congratulates researchers Heber Passos of Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), Franco Vilella of Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia (INMET), and Heitor Evangelista of Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) for their outstanding work on the Antarctic continent.

A true source of pride for Brazilian science, the Cryosphere1 Project has distinguished itself through cutting-edge research conducted in Brazil’s first research module designed to operate autonomously and remotely in Central Antarctica. This pioneering initiative reinforces Brazil’s commitment to advancing polar science, expanding knowledge about climate dynamics, and strengthening the country’s presence in one of the most strategically important regions for global environmental studies.

The dedication, innovation, and scientific excellence demonstrated by the team represent a remarkable achievement for Brazil and for the international scientific community.
