Atlantic Forest Educational Outreach Project

Atlantic Forest Educational Outreach Project – Brazil

The Atlantic Forest Educational Outreach Project – Brazil is part of an initiative developed by the World Environmental Conservancy through its program Science for the World, whose primary mission is to increase awareness of the importance of protected ecological units for maintaining the planet’s climatic equilibrium and safeguarding the well-being of future generations.

This subproject aims to bring scientific, environmental, and climate-related knowledge, initially, to public schools located in regions of significant ecological and climatic importance. The initiative seeks to connect students and local communities with contemporary environmental challenges while promoting environmental education, scientific thinking, and social responsibility toward nature conservation.

To support this endeavor, the Universidade Federal de São João del-Rei serves as a strategic academic partner of the WEC, providing scientific, educational, and institutional collaboration. The university’s privileged location near important remnants of the Atlantic Forest and the Zona da Mata region makes it a key center for the development of environmental conservation, education, and science outreach activities.

The project intends to strengthen the connection between scientific knowledge and local realities, encouraging the appreciation and protection of Brazilian ecosystems while helping to educate a new generation that is more aware of the importance of environmental preservation for the future of the planet.
